Molineux.news notes that in a grim 2025/26, three Wolves players still stood out across the calendar year, namely Joao Gomes, Jean Ricner-Bellegarde and Matt Doherty.

Early in 2025 Vitor Pereira transformed the mood, building a bond with supporters and lifting performances. A wave of key summer sales then undid that momentum and the slide followed.

Gomes has not reached his level in 2025/26, yet his surge in the second half of 2024/25 earns him a place. He helped drive the upturn alongside Andre and won Supporters’ Player of the Season ahead of Matheus Cunha. His future is unclear, and if he leaves in January he could not really be blamed, and he should go with the well wishes of the fans.

Jean Ricner-Bellegarde grew into his role in 2025, shining centrally under Pereira, with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa, where he scored, a standout. He also impressed as a left number 10 while Matheus Cunha was suspended. Though his form dipped in 2025/26, he remained one of the brighter sparks, winning Player of the Month in March and September and often taking the creative risk.

Doherty’s year was defined by a switch to the right of a back three under Pereira. After a short adaptation he found consistency and enjoys the position, which gave him a new lease of life. He has featured regularly this season, including at right wing-back, and while he can play better he gives everything, leads, and drives standards.
