An unplayable pitch at the Parc des Princes: PSG–Rennes fixture reversed

Due to the extreme heat, it was decided on Wednesday, 19 August that the pitch at the Parc des Princes would not be playable for PSG's match against Stade Rennais this Sunday.

As provided for in the LFP regulations, the LFP Competitions Commission decided to reverse the fixture.

Stade Rennais will therefore host Paris Saint-Germain at Roazhon Park on Sunday, 23 August at 8:45 p.m.

Two home matches against PSG at Roazhon Park this season for Stade Rennais?

The return fixture between the two teams, with Stade Rennais originally scheduled to host PSG at Roazhon Park in the 2026/27 Ligue 1 season, is currently planned for the weekend of 6 March.

The question now is which of two possible scenarios will apply:

  1. The match remains scheduled at Roazhon Park, meaning Rennes would play PSG at home twice this season.
  2. The return fixture is reversed because of the reversal of the first match. PSG would therefore host Stade Rennais at the Parc des Princes in March.

The situation has sparked debate, as Stade Rennais faces the economic consequences of having to organise this first home match with just four days' notice. The club could also potentially lose the revenue from one of its biggest matches of the season in March, including ticket sales and income from sponsors and partners. All of this is due to circumstances beyond the club's control: the condition of the pitch at the Parc des Princes.

Here is what the LFP regulations state in the event of a league fixture reversal: “This reversal will have no impact on the remainder of the schedule, except in exceptional circumstances.”

What will the LFP decide? To be continued!
