Gaëtane Thiney has broken her silence on the sexist comments made about her by Daniel Bravo, describing them as “condemnable but not unforgivable”.

On Saturday, while commentating Paris FC’s Ligue 1 match against Olympique de Marseille, Bravo suggested on air that Thiney was not paying attention and speaking about lingerie as images of her were shown. He apologised publicly on Wednesday, saying, “I want first to apologise to Gaëtane Thiney, to women and to everyone I may have hurt,” he told L’Équipe.

The 62-year-old former France international added that he could not explain his outburst, noting his children had asked what had come over him. beIN Sports condemned the remarks on Sunday and suspended him from its coverage.

Speaking on Thursday, Thiney said media professionals must set an example and felt the row had generated too much buzz. She said she knows Bravo and has no issue with him, adding he apologised immediately and that she did not hear the remarks at the time.

Thiney said she messaged him that morning and stressed she will always defend women. She called his words unacceptable and unhelpful for future generations, but urged people to move on, concluding that she does not condone the comments yet believes the noise around them is excessive.
