A report from Spanish outlet Fichajes has indicated that Atletico Madrid are planning to strengthen their midfield, and in the process, they have taken a look at Aston Villa’s Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans. The 28-year-old Tielemans was one of the most reliable players in the Premier League last season, playing 3032 minutes in 36 games and consistently impressing.
He contributed three goals and seven assists, as well as providing balance to the team on both sides with 85 per cent pass completion and 58 successful tackles. This is why Diego Simeone’s project is becoming a serious possibility for the midfielder.
According to the report, Atletico Madrid’s offer will be a combination of a fixed amount and variables that could attract Aston Villa financially. This decision is not easy for the club as Tielemans has been made the pivot of the team by Unai Emery.
Supporters and Players both voted him the Player of the Season for the 2024-25 season, which makes his importance even clearer. However, it is clear that no deal has been agreed yet, and talks are currently in the early stages.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa have also seen some movement on other important transfer fronts this summer, including news such as they failed to sign Geny Catamo and are set To Receive €100 Million Offer for Morgan Rogers, which highlights both the complexity and pressure of the club’s strategy.

The question now arises whether Aston Villa should consider selling Youri Tielemans or not. The Belgian’s performances last season were not only a symbol of stability for Aston Villa, but also the centre of rhythm and control.
John McGinn called him the “best player by a mile”, and the statistics also strengthen this idea. Tielemans became the first player in the Premier League to create more than 50 chances and complete more than 200 passes in the final third, which in itself is a testament to his versatility.
On the financial side, the Profit and Sustainability Rules could be a concern for Villa. Since Tielemans arrived on a free transfer in 2023, Atlético Madrid’s proposed offer of around €35m plus €10m in add-ons could bring the club a big profit.
However, every financial gain has a flip side. If Villa sell him, Emery’s tactical flexibility will be affected, and it may be difficult to mount a strong campaign in European competitions. New players such as Amadou Onana and Ross Barkley have been added, but replacing a player of Tielemans’ calibre will not be easy.
From a fan’s point of view, this decision should not rest on the balance sheet alone. Aston Villa’s goal is to remain strong in the Premier League and on the European stage, and having an experienced and reliable player like Tielemans is vital to that. That is why we believe that while the offer may be tempting, keeping Youri Tielemans at Villa Park is the right decision for long-term success and stability.
