Thomas Müller focused on "hunting titles" with Vancouver Whitecaps | OneFootball

Thomas Müller's story with Vancouver Whitecaps FC has another chapter yet to be written.

On Tuesday, the club announced that their German superstar has signed a contract extension, keeping him in British Columbia through the 2027 Sprint Season. 

“So far, it’s a hell of a ride. I said that over and over again. It’s really fun to be with this team, to be with these people and with the club," the Bayern Munich legend said. 

"And my body is still good; it’s not a surprise, but I am happy about it and I do a lot every day for it. I just feel that it’s so much fun to be out on the pitch, week in, week out. Every matchday is a good day for me. 

"And we want to achieve our goals… The Sprint Season also looks very promising and not too long for me to plan for... So, I am happy about the extension and I’m looking forward to it.”

One of a kind

After joining the Whitecaps in August 2025, Müller has helped lead Vancouver to new heights. In his debut campaign, Der Raumdeuter tallied 7g/3a in seven regular-season games and led the club to their first-ever MLS Cup final.

It's been more of the same for Müller – who's up to 9g/8a this year – and the Whitecaps in 2026. With eight regular-season matches remaining, Vancouver lead the Western Conference (50 points) and are focused on bringing home the club's first-ever MLS Cup title.

“It was very important for me that there is competition going on. Internally and especially externally," Müller said. "The coaching staff is doing a great job to keep us sharp, but also to develop, not only the playing style, but also the players... 

"I have the feeling that last year we had the biggest success in Whitecaps' modern-day MLS history, and we could really taste the blood. And we want more. That’s the thing I want to be part of.”

Unquestionably, Müller has played a key role in helping change Vancouver's fortunes. But he also credited the city and the fans for driving the team forward.

“What I enjoy is that I had the feeling right from the beginning when I came here. The city was very open, open for me, also open a little bit for my attitude, and for sure open for this team, for the Whitecaps," Müller said.

"... It feels like everyone can feel the buzz, and we want to keep this up… I can really feel that the fans also appreciate what is going on from the sports side.”

What's to come

Müller's contract extension ensures he will remain with Vancouver through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, a year he's already called "promising."

"For sure, when I signed the contract, I thought about next year too. It will not be really different," Müller added. "We do our preseason, we prepare ourselves to get ready to win games and to do what we want to do.”

Despite looking forward to the new challenges, Müller made clear that when he takes the pitch, his mind is completely focused on the task at hand: winning a title in 2026.

“I don’t want to look too far ahead," Müller said. "We are in the main part of the season, last 10 games ahead and then the playoffs start. So we want to be ready, so I’m thinking, from the sports side, only through this year."

Although he's officially inked a new deal with the 'Caps, Müller was adamant that his goals have not changed.

“I really appreciate to be here. Hunting titles with this team, especially MLS Cup," Müller declared. "The journey continues, but that doesn’t mean that we take it easy this year.”
