Three men were arrested and placed in custody after an attack on municipal councillor Meriem Bouchedda and her partner outside Groupama Stadium following OL’s match with Le Havre on Saturday 29 August.

According to Le Progres, the Lyon prosecutor’s office said the trio were detained on Friday 4 September in an aggravated-violence inquiry that moved quickly thanks to CCTV. All three are in their 30s and have criminal records, and the principal suspect, known for drug-related offences, has admitted the violence near Olympique Lyonnais’ ground in Décines-Charpieu.

Bouchedda, a councillor in Rillieux-la-Pape and a student, was left deeply shocked, describing a racist element to the assault.

She and her partner were heading to their car after OL vs Le Havre when a group of intoxicated supporters confronted them. She later wrote on Facebook that her partner was subjected to repeated racist insults and beaten by several individuals. When she tried to help, she was also struck, her T-shirt was torn and her glasses broken, and she sustained a fractured wrist.

Both victims were prescribed 15 days of temporary incapacity for work.
