Tolu Arokodare has condemned racist abuse on social media after missing a penalty for Wolves in Sunday’s 0-1 Premier League loss to Crystal Palace.
According to L'Équipe, matchweek 27 saw a spike in racist comments exposed by players in England.
Wesley Fofana reported he was called a monkey after his sending off in Chelsea-Burnley, while Hannibal Mejbri started the same game. Arokodare likewise posted screenshots of messages he received on Instagram.
In his post, the Nigeria international said it remains incomprehensible that people can spread racist abuse without consequence. He added that such individuals have no place in football and that collective action is needed to punish those who tarnish the sport, whoever they are.
Wolverhampton issued a statement offering immediate support to their player.
