Shortly before the end of the winter transfer window, Leon Goretzka’s future has apparently been given a new lease of life, with a top club from England reportedly making an enquiry
According to information from talkSPORT, FC Arsenal enquired at short notice on deadline day whether the FC Bayern midfielder would be available for a transfer
The Gunners‘ interest was triggered by the tight personnel situation in midfield. Following the potentially season-ending injury to Mikel Merino, the English top club felt compelled to sound out the market at short notice. Goretzka came into focus as an experienced player who could be deployed immediately. However, there have reportedly been no concrete negotiations or a formal offer to date
At the moment, a transfer is still considered unlikely. Goretzka had recently made his position clear and decided to play out the current season at FC Bayern. The 30-year-old had already rejected a winter transfer to Atlético Madrid, despite the Spaniards‘ intensive courtship of him. This stance is also likely to remain in place with Arsenal
The transfer window is still open until 8 p.m. today, 2 February. Given the short time available, Goretzka’s sporting importance for Bayern in the second half of the season and the player’s clear career plan, a short-term deal hardly seems realistic

Goretzka’s focus is more on the coming summer. Now that his departure from FC Bayern has been confirmed, the international is planning his next move strategically. The aim is to have clarity about his future as early as possible and ideally sign a new contract before the World Cup. Security and full concentration on the tournament are paramount
In addition to clubs from Italy such as AC Milan, Juventus and SSC Napoli, there are also several clubs in England who are keeping a close eye on the Bayern professional. Arsenal are now probably one of them, at least in the short term – albeit without any realistic prospect of an immediate deal.
