Spurs look to remain busy until the close of summer window

Juventus have completed the signing of Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr on Deadline Day.

The Senegalese international has swapped Spurs for Turin on an initial season-long loan deal.

Juventus’ move for Sarr also includes the obligation for a permanent transfer next summer worth £25.7million.

Sarr initially moved to Spurs in 2021 from French club Metz, whom he immediately re-joined on loan before arriving in north London a year later and making his Premier League debut in January 2023.

He went on to play 141 times across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and registering as many assists.

However, the 23-year-old made only 13 Premier League starts last season and had fallen further down the pecking order during Roberto De Zerbi’s first transfer window at the club.

Tottenham broke their transfer record twice in the space of just a few days in July as they spent around £185m combined on midfielders Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.

Spurs also have the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Conor Gallagher and Lucas Bergvall to call upon in midfield, with Sarr having not made the squad for any of their three games so far this term having been dealing with a minor injury.

De Zerbi confirmed over the weekend that Sarr had asked to leave Tottenham before the summer transfer deadline on Tuesday, along with Kevin Danso and Richarlison.

“Richarlison, I don’t know,” De Zerbi said after Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by Newcastle. “He said too many times he wants to leave.

Danso looks set to join Sunderland on an initial season-long loan that includes an option to buy, with Spurs moving for Tosin Adarabioyo as his replacement on a permanent transfer as part of a double deal with rivals Chelsea that will also include loaning Mykhailo Mudryk.

Tottenham appear to have missed out to Manchester City in the race for Sarr’s Senegal team-mate Iliman Ndiaye, after Cody Gakpo chose to remain at Liverpool.

Teenage forward Mikey Moore has completed a loan move to Cologne, while left-back Souza has been loaned to Porto.

There had been talks over Richarlison heading back to former club Everton, though that does not appear to be happening as things stand before the window shuts at 11pm BST.
