Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison is reportedly currently suffering from a hip issue.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club are managing the knock, which is a reccurrence of an old injury.
Spurs begin their Premier League campaign in a fortnight with a trip to Brentford, and they are hoping Maddison will make Roberto De Zerbi’s squad for the game.
The 29-year-old only played three games last term due to a knee injury he sustained during a friendly against Newcastle United this time last year.
Maddison is currently Tottenham’s vice-captain having been named so in August 2023 shortly after his arrival from Leicester City.
He is reportedly set to be named the captain when Cristian Romero leaves, but De Zerbi may be forced to change his plans.
A knee injury in May 2025 ended his season before the ACL in August ensured he missed almost the entirety of last season.
Spurs need a captain who will always be available, and their manager could opt to appoint someone else to take over the armband from the outgoing Argentine defender.
Maddison has not featured in pre-season after De Zerbi revealed after the Lilywhites’ open training session in Sydney that the Englishman has a ‘small problem’.
The Tottenham manager decided against risking him on the pre-season tour and will hope he is available to play when the new season kicks off.
Spurs returned to Hotspur Way this week after their tour, and De Zerbi could also do with much-needed injury boosts after Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski stepped up their rehabilitation.
The attacking duo have taken to the grass in recent training sessions and will be desperate to return to action in the coming weeks.
