Tottenham Hotspur have rejected a Newcastle United bid of around £46 million (€54 million) for midfielder Lucas Bergvall, a proposal that surpassed Nottingham Forest’s approaches to date.

Spurs have rebuffed all attempts to sign the 20-year-old, including higher offers, though they would consider a sale if the fee reached a level they view acceptable. The Sweden international is contracted until June 2031 and has told the club he would prefer to explore a move this summer, a desire first reported in June by The Athletic.

Earlier in the window, Newcastle sold Sandro Tonali to Spurs, and missed out on Switzerland international Johan Manzambi who joined Aston Villa instead.

Forest have made Bergvall their primary target as they seek to replace Elliot Anderson after his £116 million move to Manchester City.

Bergvall has made 78 appearances for Spurs since arriving for £8.5 million from Swedish side Djurgarden in 2024. He played 33 times last season, registering one goal and five assists. He underwent surgery on a high sprain to his left ankle in January and returned in March.

Spurs have already strengthened in midfield this summer, signing Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United for £85 million, alongside Tonali in a deal worth up to £100 million.
