The Eintracht captain was one of 16 players involved in Tuesday’s session, but Robin Koch is undergoing treatment.

Although the size of the group has been reduced by 11 internationals, the output will be even higher than usual this week.  Head coach Dino Toppmöller and his coaching staff have half a dozen sessions planned between now and Friday, the first of which took place on Tuesday morning outside Deutsche Bank Park.

With only 12 outfield players available, Toppmöller and his colleagues were able to chop and change the exercises and drills with relative ease. There was a bit of everything, including a six-v-six match, another game involving three teams of four, and sprinting duels.

Eintracht’s skipper, goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, also took part in an intensive session as he made his return from the thigh injury he suffered in mid-September.

The group was completed by U21 players Noah Fenyö and Marcel Wenig - who returned to Regionalliga action in September after recovering from a torn cruciate knee ligament - as well as 18-year-old U19 playmaker Ayoub Chaikhoun.

Robin Koch, who has not joined up with the Germany national team because of a hip problem, is undergoing treatment on the issue, while Oscar Højlund is continuing his recovery from a broken metatarsal.

This week’s final session is scheduled for Friday, after which the players will be given a long weekend off. Preparations for the away game against Bayern 04 Leverkusen are due to begin next Tuesday.
