The 12/12 date was formalised in 2012 as a homage to Boca’s hinchada, widely known as the Número 12.

That moniker emerged during Boca’s 1925 tour of Europe, the first undertaken by an Argentine team on the continent, when supporter Victoriano Agustín Cafferena joined the travelling party as kitman and masseur.

He also helped cover expenses for several players to feature in international friendlies in the amateur era, and team-mates nicknamed him the Jugador Nº 12, a label now synonymous with the fanbase.
