Troy Parrott was already a national hero in Ireland and a favourite son of AZ Alkmaar but he is quickly becoming Real Betis' main man. 

The Dubliner came off the bench on Friday night to score a late winner against Real Madrid - his first since his summer move from the Netherlands. 

His exploits saw him handed a start by Manuel Pellegrini for their Champions League opener away to Lille but things did not get off to the best start, with Betis trailing 2-1 at half-time. 

Facundo Bernal grabbed a second equaliser just after the break before Parrott struck and Lille hit the self-destruct button. 

With a rare bit of space, he latched onto Rodrigo Riquelme's through ball, moved past a defender before finishing expertly with his left foot.

Like against Real, it was quickly followed by some Mbappé madness - Kylian missed a penalty four nights ago and Ethan saw red for an elbow tonight. 

Not that "El Loro" will care as he takes the next step in a career that continues to live up to the potential spotted all those years ago in the Irish capital.
