Troyes clinched the Ligue 2 title on matchday 33 with a 4-0 win over Laval, as Saint-Étienne slipped 2-1 at Rodez to make it three defeats in a row and stay two points behind Le Mans, who drew 1-1 with Reims. Amiens dropped to Ligue 3.
According to L'Équipe, Troyes had already sealed promotion to Ligue 1, and Saturday's victory confirmed top spot. Behind them, three sides are split by two points, with Le Mans second and Red Star level with Saint-Étienne after a 3-1 success at Amiens.
Rodez, fifth, Reims, sixth, and Annecy, seventh after winning 2-1 at Boulogne, will contest the final play-off place. Montpellier, beaten 2-1 by Clermont, are out of the promotion picture.
Le Mans trailed when captain Mory Gbane headed in from a free-kick on 20 minutes, then Samuel Yohou levelled on 36. They controlled after the break and substitute Martin Rossignol shot wide in the box at 90+7.
Le Mans remain in control, one point ahead of Saint-Étienne. Rodez are 19 unbeaten, with 10 wins and nine draws, and they beat Les Verts 2-1, who only reduced the deficit through Irvin Cardona on 89.
The final day looks wide open. Saint-Étienne host Amiens, while Le Mans visit Bastia, who can still reach the play-offs, and Red Star welcome Montpellier after their 2-1 home loss to Clermont at La Mosson.
Bastia, 17th, won 1-0 at Guingamp to move within one of Laval, who host Boulogne on Saturday. This league has proved unpredictable all season.
