The Canaries have had a mixed start to the campaign under new boss Johannes Hoff Thorup, who had to deal with a whole host of players departing in the summer window.

Those off-field distractions may have played a part in what was a difficult first few games for Norwich, but they’ve improved significantly in the past month or so, collecting ten points from their past five games.

The latest point came against a Leeds side that many tipped for promotion this season, with Thorup’s men more than matching the visitors for large parts.

And, taking to Instagram, Sainz admitted they were disappointed not to win, although he was quickly looking forward as Norwich look to extend this positive run.

We wanted to get the three points at home, but it’s time to stay focused, keep working hard, and trust in what we’re doing.”

The Norfolk side took an early lead through Josh Sargent from the penalty spot after the USA international had been brought down by Joe Rodon following some smart footwork in the box.

However, Largie Ramazani would equalise for the Whites with a crisp finish after he was played through by Wilfried Gnonto on the hour mark, with Daniel Farke having to settle for a draw on his latest return to Carrow Road.

Norwich City can take encouragement from Leeds United performance

This was another big test for Norwich, as they had been making strides forward in recent weeks, so it was interesting to see how they would cope against one of the better sides in the Championship - and they did well.

They were comfortable in possession for spells, and they always had a threat when going forward as Sainz and Sargent are two very good players for this level.

There will be an element of frustration that they couldn’t nick a winner, but a draw was probably a fair result.

Borja Sainz remains key for Norwich City

The Spaniard made the headlines over the weekend as he scored a hat-trick in the 3-2 win over Derby County which highlighted his class, and Sainz was crucial once more.

His ability to carry the ball up the pitch with his dribbling and pace means he always offers an outlet, and he has now offered a consistent end product, scoring six goals in eight games this season, which matches his total from the previous campaign.

Thorup will know that in Sainz and Sargent he has two of the better attacking players in the league, and the likes of Ante Crnac and Oscar Schwartau are young players who have a lot of potential to improve, so Norwich have built a decent side.
