Michel Vlap could leave FC Twente for Spartak Moscow, according to Voetbal International. The Tukkers have reportedly received an “attractive offer” from the Russian club for the 28-year-old midfielder. Vlap’s contract runs until next summer, making it a logical time for both parties to make a transfer.
Spartak have made an offer of €3.5 million, excluding bonuses, and the Frisian has apparently indicated he is very keen to make the move. A key reason might be the significant salary increase in Moscow.
According to Twente, interest has become particularly serious in recent days. There’s a good chance that clarity will emerge soon as follow-up talks about the potential transfer are scheduled for today.
There was a stir about Vlap’s future earlier in the season following statements by the now-departed technical director Arnold Bruggink. He said the midfielder did not want to renew his contract. His successor, Jan Streuer, already involved with the club as an advisor, recently stated that, as far as he’s concerned, Vlap doesn’t need to leave. “We might still be able to work something out.”
After an initial loan spell turned permanent from Anderlecht for €2 million, Vlap has been playing for Twente for four years now. The former SC Heerenveen player has scored 20 goals in 162 official matches for Twente. If he leaves, he would be the third midfielder to make a transfer this summer, after Sem Steijn (Feyenoord) and Michael Sadílek (Slavia Prague).
