Two for two! USMNT down Chile to maintain momentum

The US men's national team made it back-to-back wins against South American foes, defeating Chile, 4-2, at St. Louis CITY SC's Energizer Park Tuesday night.

It is the second of four international friendlies during the extended September/October window, following a 4-1 victory over Peru on Saturday at Orlando City's Inter.co Stadium.

Chris Richards scored the decisive goal, latching onto Sebastian Berhalter's corner kick and powerfully heading into the net in the 72nd minute.

It was Berhalter who gave the USMNT the lead in the 37th minute. The former Vancouver Whitecaps FC star took a pass from Sergiño Dest through a clever dummy by Red Bull New York's Justin Hall before firing home a first-time shot inside the far post to find the back of the net for the second consecutive match.

Diego Ulloa leveled for Chile in first-half stoppage time, knocking the ball in following a scramble in front of goal, and Maxi Gutiérrez put La Roja in front early in the second half with a well-struck shot inside the far post.

Hall provided an immediate response with a glancing header to become the youngest player to score in his first two USMNT appearances.

And then Richards came off the bench to score the second-half match-winner before 17-year-old Mathis Albert put a bow on the win in second-half stoppage time to become the youngest goalscorer in USMNT history.

They now turn the page, with many of the young call-ups getting their first taste of the rivalry with Mexico on Saturday night.
