Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri will have to pick between Boulaye Dia and Pedro in Monday’s away fixture against Genoa.
The 66-year-old has been forced to shuffle his plans due to a massive emergency in the middle of the park. Matteo Guendouzi and Reda Belahyane will be suspended, while Nicolo Rovella and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru picked up injuries in the Derby della Capitale defeat to Roma.
Moreover, Matias Vecino is unlikely to be fit enough to start, leaving Danilo Cataldi as the only available midfielder in the squad, at least until Toma Basic’s expected reinstatement. Therefore, maintaining the 4-3-3 system isn’t plausible in the current circumstances, so Sarri will switch to a 4-4-2 or a 4-4-1-1 system, at least for Monday’s Serie A contest against Genoa
According to Il Messaggero, the Lazio head coach is facing a selection dilemma up front. While Taty Castellanos will regain his starting spot after being dropped from the lineup against Roma, the identity of his attacking partner remains uncertain, as Sarri has yet to choose between Pedro and Dia.
The source believes that the Spanish legend is the slight favorite at this stage, as he continues to impress Sarri with almost every outing. On the other hand, Dia will be eager to make amends after wasting a sitter in the Derby, but he might have to wait until the second half to get his chance.
