One of the signings that got América’s fans excited in 2019 was undoubtedly the capture of Chilean striker Nicolás Castillo from Benfica.
Unfortunately, for different reasons, Nico could never offer his best football while wearing the Eagles shirt.
As if that were not enough, he missed a decisive penalty in the final of the Liga MX Apertura tournament, something that has made the América supporters ask for his exit.
With his extremely high salary, the América board are keen to accept an offer, only if it meets the financial interests of the club.
It was rumoured that América had offered Castillo to MLS clubs and it wasn’t long before there was high interest in the player, with Los Angeles Galaxy and Inter Miami stepping up as contenders to make him a Designated Player.
If the Galaxy were to take on Castillo, that could pave the way for Jonathan dos Santos to make a dream América move, so a potential player-plus-cash swap deal could be in the works.
In 26 games with the club, Castillo netted nine times.
