Two suspects to stand trial in February over racist assault after Lyon vs Le Havre | OneFootball

Two suspects will face trial over an alleged racist assault on Meriem Bouchedda and her husband after Lyon’s 1-1 draw with Le Havre on 29 August. The Lyon prosecutor’s office told AFP the hearing is scheduled for 18 February.

Bouchedda, an elected representative in Rillieux-la-Pape, reported being targeted along with her husband. Three men in their thirties, each with a criminal record, were arrested on Friday in the Lyon area.

One was released without charge, while the other two are due before the criminal court on counts of group violence causing total incapacity to work. For the elected official, the incapacity period is assessed at more than eight days.

In a separate incident before the match, two other men, one aged 17, were beaten. There is currently no evidence linking the two episodes. An investigation is also under way.

At this stage, the working hypothesis is a fight between rival supporter groups who may have arranged to meet.
