UCV retire number 20 after Yimvert Berroterán tribute, resume training | OneFootball

Venezuela's UCV, Santos' Copa Sudamericana opponents, held a memorial mass on Friday for 18-year-old midfielder Yimvert Berroterán, a victim of the recent earthquake, then returned to training. The club also retired the number 20 shirt in his honour.

The club said in a post that they had returned to the pitch but not to normality. It said preparations for their international fixture would continue with full awareness of the country's situation. It added that sport could help the nation through a difficult moment.

Helping those affected is the priority and facilities remain open to receive donations. Yimvert and all Venezuelans will be remembered in prayers before each session, and the club thanked supporters for their solidarity.

The tragedy will not be forgotten and the club will keep helping.

The first match between Santos and UCV in the Copa Sudamericana is on Tuesday 21 at 21:30 at the Olímpico de la UCV. The return leg is on 28 at 21:30 at Vila Belmiro.
