Udinese star Gerard Deulofeu has revealed that there is a possibility that he may not play football anymore.

The Spaniard has sparkled for Udinese whenever he has played and he formed a brilliant partnership with Beto, who left for Everton in the summer. The club are threatened by relegation, as Deulofeu nurses a knee issue and it isn’t the first knee problem that he has faced since arrived at the Friulian club.

In an interview with Twitch channel Jijantes (via CM), the Spanish winger spoke about his situation, fitness and his future in the game. He revealed that he may not play football anymore and he’s already exploring post-career options.

He said: “For several months I’ve known that I might not play anymore. I can’t do what I love for a long time. I haven’t played for over a year. I can’t say much, but I’m going through an ordeal . You can’t imagine what I’m going through. I am trying to recover in every way, but I have accepted the idea that I may never recover.

“I had an injury in 2020, my knee was very traumatized, but I managed to recover. I then suffered another injury, for a third time and there were complications. I can’t say much because I have an agreement with my club, but I’ll just say that it’s a real ordeal, you can’t imagine what’s happening to me. However, I’m trying to recover in every way but I’m also preparing for what could be a post-career career.”

Deulofeu last played a game against Sampdoria last season and he picked up a knee injury from which he hasn’t recovered yet. His first injury came about in November 2022 against Napoli before the World Cup. The Spaniard underwent a capsular reinforcement operation on his right knee in order to increase its stability.
