UEFA 'to file' Swiss complaint against Gianni Infantino over gestion déloyale | OneFootball

According to AFP, UEFA is preparing a complaint under Swiss law against FIFA president Gianni Infantino for alleged "gestion déloyale", linked to a scrapped plan to admit private investors to World Cup revenues.

The project was pursued in secret, then revealed and dropped in midsummer. In a preliminary petition to a Florida court seeking documents, UEFA says the scheme caused direct and concrete harm to FIFA’s reputation.

A 60-page text states the move is intended to support a foreign proceeding to be brought later in Switzerland, once the US subsidiaries created by FIFA for the 2026 World Cup have disclosed the scheme’s details.

There is no timeline. UEFA intends to pursue Infantino for "gestion déloyale", an offence that can carry up to five years in prison and requires proof he intentionally harmed FIFA’s interests. The term is not recognised in French law and is sometimes likened to breach of trust or fraud, although scopes differ by country.

UEFA’s case centres on Infantino’s idea to channel World Cup income into a company open to private investors, which FIFA presented in late July as a way to unlock the tournament’s commercial potential. UEFA contends it was a vehicle for Infantino and a small group of associates, including Joshua Kushner, brother of Donald Trump’s son-in-law, to secure a permanent stake in FIFA’s most valuable assets and profit at the expense of the organisation, its members and the wider football community.
