Unai Simón kept a light-hearted promise with DAZN reporter Elena G. Durán after Spain beat Argentina to win the World Cup. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, they reunited on the pitch to complete it.
Durán has been a regular around the squad with her fist-bump game and offbeat questions. Their bond drew attention after Spain reached the final, which fell on Durán’s birthday. She offered sweets to players, but Simón brought some for her, then asked that his be given on the tournament’s last night.
During the celebrations he joked he felt empty but said he had more Sugus, and she pressed him to honour the agreement. They bumped fists, then she handed him two chocolates to settle it.
The exchange underlined Durán’s rapport with the squad and content tailored for social media. She later posted pitchside photos with players and relatives, including Marc Cucurella’s partner and Lamine Yamal’s mother.
Simón said he felt very good but added the team would only grasp their achievement once back in Spain. He noted Spain conceded only one goal across the tournament. Named the 2026 World Cup Golden Glove, he credited team-mates and the manager’s idea.
