Union Berlin announce signing of Swiss winger | OneFootball

1. FC Union Berlin have confirmed the arrival of Swiss midfielder Kastriot Imeri from BSC Young Boys.

Imeri previously played under Union head coach Mauro Lustrinelli at Young Boys and is relishing the chance to test himself in the Bundesliga.

 “The move to Union is a huge challenge for me and, at the same time, an enormous opportunity,” he said.

"The Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in the world and Union have developed exceptionally well in recent years. The discussions with the club officials immediately gave me a good feeling. Another important factor for me was the prospect of working with Mauro again. We know each other very well from our time together in Switzerland, where we enjoyed some special successes. 

"Now I’m looking forward to bringing my skills to the team, getting to know the squad and experiencing many special moments together with our fans.”

Union director of men’s professional football Horst Heldt is delighted with the arrival of the versatile midfielder, who can operate both out wide and in a central attacking role.

“Kastriot is a technically gifted and versatile attacking player who can be deployed both between the lines and out wide. He is very well-trained, brings experience from top-flight Swiss football and international competition, and has already demonstrated his potential at the highest level on numerous occasions," Heldt said. 

"We are convinced that he will bring additional creativity to our attacking play. Furthermore, Kastriot and Mauro have already worked together very successfully. This existing connection will make his integration easier and is another building block that will enable him to contribute his qualities to the team quickly.”
