Michael Olise isn’t just impressing at FC Bayern—he’s also currently shining in the French national team’s jersey at the World Cup. Now, a true legend of the Équipe Tricolore has spoken out—and praised the attacking player for one specific quality.
We’re talking about Patrice Evra. The former world-class defender has been following his compatriot’s career for quite some time and isn’t particularly surprised by his current success. In an interview with GOAL, Evra explained what particularly impresses him about Olise.
“I’m not surprised by Michael Olise. I’ve loved watching him for quite a while now. Everyone sees his talent, but what I like most is his maturity. He never seems flustered. He always plays as if he has time, even when he doesn’t,” said Evra.
In addition to his composure, he highlights a special nonchalance that the 24-year-old brings to the field: “Some people see that and think he’s too relaxed. But I see calm control. The best players make complicated things look easy.”

For Evra, the Bayern pro has long been among the absolute best in the world: “He can score goals, create chances, link up play, hold onto the ball, and work for the team. That’s rare. At 24, he’s no longer a kid, but he still has so much ahead of him. If he keeps that hunger, France will have a true player for many years to come,” said the former defender.
The legend does see one potential danger, however: that Olise could lose his footing.
“Every year, defenders analyze you more closely. Every year, people expect more from you. That’s the point where you find out who’s serious about it,” said Evra.
That doesn’t really worry him, though. To him, Olise doesn’t come across as a player seeking the spotlight. “He looks like someone who loves the game. If he keeps that joy, stays humble, and never thinks he’s made it t [an der Spitze], he can stay at the top for a very long time,” he emphasized.
