Ciaron Brown marshalled the back line and dominated the air to help Oxford United draw 0-0 with Queens Park Rangers.
Early on he set the tone with assertive headers and tidy distribution, repeatedly stepping in front of the first ball to stop attacks at source.
After the restart he stayed on top of his duels, adding crucial clearances under pressure and a key block that kept the penalty area calm.
He finished with eight aerials won, seven clearances and 11 possessions won, plus 54 accurate passes from 64, a defender's shift that underpinned Oxford United's control of dangerous moments.
Because Queens Park Rangers slung in 18 crosses, his positioning and timing were pivotal, allowing Oxford United to defend deep without panicking and to reset quickly when the ball dropped.
