Roy Hodgson has criticised Newcastle United supporters for booing their team after Sunderland’s derby win at St James’ Park.

“I saw that they were booed off the field by their fans. Now that’s almost unthinkable.” He said this on the Wayne Rooney podcast.

Newcastle had taken an early lead through Anthony Gordon after 10 minutes, but Sunderland seized control after the interval and Brian Brobbey hit a late winner to complete a Premier League double.

“It’s all about results. As soon as results (turn)… It amuses me sometimes to see a team doing really well.”

Sunderland are next in action on Sunday after the international break against Tottenham Hotspur at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League, with Roberto De Zerbi newly appointed as manager. A win would move the Black Cats to 46 points.
