Diego López has suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament rupture and will be out until around January 2027, a blow that leaves Valencia needing to bolster their wide options in this window.

The injury affected his right knee and was sustained in the last LaLiga match, against Barcelona at Mestalla. The club said in a statement that the operation on Wednesday was successful.

The Asturian has undergone surgery in Madrid and begun his recovery, aiming to return as soon as possible.

The procedure was carried out by Dr Manuel Leyes and his team at Clínica Olympia in Madrid, under the supervision of Pedro López, director of Valencia’s medical department.

He will remain under observation for the next few hours before being discharged from hospital.
