Marvin Ducksch’s proposed loan to Valencia collapsed late on the final day, with Birmingham City telling the Spanish club the move could not be completed in time. According to AS, the German forward will now remain with Birmingham.
Valencia had targeted the Birmingham City striker as cover for the injured Umar Sadiq and were working on a deal running to 30 June. Despite Ducksch featuring for only six minutes across three league matches so far, talks broke down at the last moment.
In the afternoon Birmingham told Valencia the move could not be completed due to time constraints. The English side, who play Southampton tonight, had sought to seal the loan early afternoon, but Valencia delayed their response after learning the player committed a drink-driving offence in April, even though Ron Gourlay and Lisandro Isei backed the deal on sporting grounds.
After the collapse, Valencia remain open to finding a replacement for Sadiq, who is sidelined for two and a half months.
On the final day the club also confirmed Harvey Elliot on loan from Liverpool at the coaching staff’s request. They had aimed to add a commanding centre-back and a striker, but the only deal Gourlay had tied up was Ducksch.
