Valencia have reached an agreement in principle with Javier Aguirre to become their new head coach, with negotiations in the final stretch and optimism about closing the deal within hours.
The final step is for the Mexican federation to release fitness coach Pol Lorente, who worked with Aguirre at the last World Cup, a condition described as indispensable by A Bote Pronto.
Only minor contractual details remain, including a small payment related to Aguirre’s preferred fitness coach, and the plan is for him to arrive early next week. If nothing derails talks, new sporting director Braulio Vázquez would have his man in place.
In initial contacts this week, the 67-year-old has projected the same energy that kept Mallorca up in 2022 and almost saved Leganés after taking over in November 2019.
His LaLiga know-how and readiness to back committed players, including academy talent, appeal to Valencia’s hierarchy. Aguirre regards the squad as good enough for Primera División.
