Valencia are pushing to sign Girona right-back Arnau Martínez, who is open to the move, with Ron Gourlay working on the deal. According to AS, the player has approved Valencia’s offer, but an agreement with Girona is still required and will not be simple.
Arnau would be tied to a five-year contract worth around two point four million euros per season, which could be structured to rise.
Following Girona’s relegation to Segunda, his release clause dropped to eight million euros and his salary also fell. Valencia are well short of those figures, while Girona want close to six million euros.
Carlos Corberán has identified Arnau as his preferred right-back, and Valencia are prepared to stretch financially, proposing around four million euros for a percentage of the player, with conditions linked to any future sale.
Corberán is keen to secure a dependable right-back quickly, as Foulquier faces several weeks of recovery and is not expected to feature in the opening matches.
Valencia do not begin their league campaign until 22 August, so Arnau could arrive in time to face Celta if selected.
