Midfielder Valentin Atangana (20) has been ruled out of Monday’s match between the French and Icelandic Under-21 teams and has been given permission to leave the training camp, according to L’Équipe.

After sustaining an injury to his left leg during Les Bleuets’ training session, the Al-Ahli player was forced to leave his teammates early, following treatment from the medical staff. A starter and goalscorer in France’s victory over Luxembourg on Thursday evening (1-5), Atangana will therefore not feature in Gérald Baticle’s side’s sixth match in the qualifying campaign for the Under-21 European Championship.

Another setback for the young French side, already without Wilson Odobert (21), Mathys Tel (20), Jean-Mattéo Bahoya (20), Senny Mayulu (19) and Elie Junior Kroupi (19) for this first gathering of 2026.

A key player for the Saudi Arabian side managed by Matthias Jaissle, Atangana has started in 28 of the 29 matches (scoring five goals) he has played for the Jeddah-based club since the start of the season.
