VfL Wolfsburg have dismissed head coach Daniel Bauer with immediate effect after yesterday's 2-1 defeat to Hamburger SV, the club said in a statement this morning.
The result pushed Wolfsburg deeper into the relegation fight. A successor will be announced shortly.
Sporting director Pirmin Schwegler said the call was anything but easy and that the club had hoped to turn things around together.
After reviewing the overall situation, he said they concluded the team needed fresh impetus to secure their place in the league. He thanked Bauer for his work with the first team and for his many years in the VfL Academy, and wished him well personally and professionally.
Bauer, 43, initially replaced Paul Simonis on an interim basis in November of last year before being appointed permanently in December.
Before that, he held various academy roles from the summer of 2016. Under his leadership this season, the first team collected 12 points from 15 matches.
