Barcelona are less than 24 hours away from confirming their sixth signing of the 2026 summer transfer window. Over the weekend, a deal was agreed with Arsenal for Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus, who will arrive to reinforce Hansi Flick’s striker options for the 2026-27 season.

Jesus is being brought in as the Ferran Torres replacement, with Barcelona still hoping that a deal can be done for leading striker target Julian Alvarez. The 29-year-old has been surplus to requirements in North London for some time, and he will now have the chance to get back to his best with a new challenge in Catalonia.

Once Barcelona reached an agreement with Arsenal, Jesus was given the green light to travel into El Pais airport. He arrived shortly after 3pm CEST, and he was welcomed by a number of supporters and reporters, as captured by COPE’s Victor Navarro.

Jesus spoke briefly upon walking out at El Pais, telling those in attendance that he is “very happy (to be joining Barcelona)” and that “hopefully we win many titles”. He also eased any concerns about his injury record, noting that his knee “feels perfect”, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Jesus deal makes sense for Barcelona – if he can stay fit

On paper, Jesus is an interesting signing for Barcelona. He was fantastic at Manchester City, but since moving to Arsenal four years ago, he has struggled to reach the same heights – largely due to injuries having a major effect. If he is to be a success in Catalonia, he must ensure that he keeps himself fit for the vast majority of his spell, which will be easier said than done.

If his availability is good, he has the potential to be a very good addition to Flick’s squad. Crucially, he is a very hard worker, and his pressing numbers are good, so it is no surprise that he has been chosen by the club.
