Villarreal are close to finalising a season-long loan for winger Thiago Fernández to Levante UD, aiming to secure regular minutes and continuity in his development.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the deal is well advanced and would mirror recent terms for Dani Requena, running until June 2027 with Levante holding an option to buy at the end of the loan.

Villarreal intend to retain control over the Argentine’s future. If Levante exercise that option in summer 2027, Villarreal would keep buy-back clauses in subsequent windows.

The club view Levante as a near-ideal landing spot for the winger, with top-flight football, close proximity to Vila-real and minimal adaptation required.

The priority is for Fernández to play the minutes he is unlikely to be guaranteed at Villarreal this season and to maintain his progress in Spanish football. He impressed during a half-season stint at Real Oviedo last term, reinforcing the case for another loan at a high level.

An administrative factor also weighs in. Villarreal’s three non-EU slots are occupied by Luiz Júnior, Tajon Buchanan and Alax Freeman, which would prevent Thiago Fernández being registered for LaLiga at present.

His departure would add to a busy summer of exits. Diego Conde, Arnau Tenas, Dani Requena and Hugo López have left on loan, while Pau Cabanes, Álex Forés, Lautaro Spatz and Thiago Ojeda have departed in permanent deals.
