Villarreal confirm signing of Alexander Sorloth replacement in €15m deal

Villarreal have confirmed the signing of FC Basel striker Thierno Barry on a five-year deal from the Swiss giants. The 21-year-old has started this season on fire, scoring 8 goals in 4 games, despite not playing all of those matches.

Barry previously caught the eye of Basel in Belgian football for Beveren, and made a €3m move for him last summer. While not prolific, scoring 12 times last season, Barry’s size, power and mobility have caused defences issues. An imposing target man, he does not mind drifting wide or running with the ball at his feet either.

It is believed that the deal set Villarreal back around €14m, with a further €1m available in variables. Barry is set to be available for their clash with Sevilla this weekend, and comes in to fill the hole left by Alexander Sorloth’s departure. His goals will be hard to replace, but it looks as if they have found a similar profile.
