Villarreal have consolidated the fourth-highest LaLiga squad cost limit for 2026/27, underscoring financial stability after the summer window.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, LaLiga’s post-summer Límite de Coste de Plantilla Deportiva sets Villarreal at 170.564 million euros, behind Real Madrid 832.786, Barcelona 582.769 and Atlético Madrid 361.287.

They lead Real Betis on 142.847 million, Athletic Club 139.203, Real Sociedad 137.190 and Valencia 98.812. Villarreal were also fourth in 2025/26 on 173.084 million, a decline of around one and a half per cent.

The club’s guiding policy, not spending beyond income, led by Fernando Roig and continued by CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles, has sustained growth, European competition and investment without risking stability.

That restraint was evident this summer. After about 105 million on signings in 2025/26, outlay fell to 16.5 million, 15 million for Nathan Saliba and one and a half million for Péter Gulácsi. Despite the smaller spend, the cap remains the fourth highest in Spain.

The LCPD covers fixed and variable pay, social security, bonuses, agent fees, transfer costs and annual amortisation, and includes the head coach, staff, B team, academy and other sections. Clubs propose a limit, which the league’s Validation Body may adjust to protect finances, and headroom need not be fully used.
