Vitor Roque returned to Palmeiras’ starting XI and showed an upturn in the 1-0 win over LDU, with Abel Ferreira stressing he is not yet at 100%.
He had spent two matches on the bench after a dip in form, with the coach last week saying he was out of shape and demanding a change in posture and body language, according to Globo.com.
Back in from the start against LDU, the striker took four shots, level with Arias for most attempts, and helped create the winner in the Libertadores quarter-final first leg. He dispossessed his opponent and shot, and Giay converted the rebound.
Ferreira felt this display was much closer to Roque’s usual profile, built on physical presence in one-on-one duels that had recently been missing.
He cautioned that competitive rhythm cannot be bought, noting that even with a strong health and performance department, physiology after operations means players do not regain it in one or two games, which he called impossible.
Even so, he welcomed the signs of progress and believes there remains plenty of room for Roque to grow.
