Vitor Roque suffered a fresh scare to his left ankle and was withdrawn after 15 minutes of Palmeiras’ win over Jacuipense on Thursday. He left the stadium wearing protection and struggled to walk.
According to Globo.com, the forward, only recently back from injury in the same area, has again prompted concern at the club. After the Copa do Brasil tie, Abel Ferreira said he could not specify the problem and that they must wait for assessment.
He damaged ankle ligaments in the Paulista semi-final against São Paulo on the first of March. With the club he played the State final and scored in the match that sealed the title against Novorizontino.
He began treatment and tried to return late in March, appearing off the bench against São Paulo and Botafogo before going back under the Health and Performance Centre’s care. Palmeiras also worked on his confidence, bringing him back only on Sunday for eight minutes against Athletico-PR.
Named to start on Thursday, he asked to come off after a heavy foul by Vicente Reis. Luighi replaced him and the number nine left on the stretcher cart looking worried. On social media he said he would take it one day at a time and work hard to return quickly.
The diagnosis is due when the squad reconvenes on Friday. He is unlikely to face Bragantino on Sunday in the Brasileirão.
