Vitória criticise Abel Ferreira comment on Luan Cândido, cite coach’s dismissals

Globo.com reports that Vitória issued a statement on Thursday condemning Abel Ferreira's comment about Luan Cândido, who was sent off for making a theft gesture in Wednesday's Campeonato Brasileiro match against Palmeiras.

The club expressed full confidence in the defender's character and professionalism, and urged improvements and professionalisation in Brazilian refereeing.

Hours later, Luan Cândido apologised to Vitória supporters on social media and questioned the basis of Abel Ferreira's remark.

Luan Cândido, a professional since 2020, has six dismissals in six years, an average of one per season. The breakdown is four direct reds and two for second bookings.

Over the same span, Abel Ferreira has 13 dismissals in official matches, more than double the player's tally.
