Vitória ended a run of four straight defeats with a 1-0 victory over Grêmio at Barradão on Monday night, Renê scoring the winner to end a six-match drought and goalkeeper Lucas Arcanjo also impressing.

According to Globo.com, Arcanjo produced key stops before the interval, then was largely a spectator after half-time. The breakthrough came in the second period from Mateus Silva’s precise corner after Jamerson forced the set-piece.

Before the goal, Matheuzinho threaded a fine pass to Renê in the first half and Erick went close with a placed effort. Renato Kayzer endured a difficult night, missing two one-on-ones, with Pochettino also supplying him a clear chance during his brief outing.

At the back, Brítez deputised for Cacá alongside Luan Cândido and the pair offered assurance against limited threat. Caíque risked a red card in a second-half confrontation but otherwise kept things tidy. Edenílson entered late and was not rated.

Tarzia was busy without end product and faded after the break, while Marinho largely focused on defensive work. Erick saw plenty of the ball yet his crossing and finishing lacked precision. Fabri held it up late on but his choices were often poor.

Head coach Jair Ventura, coping with numerous absences, still fielded a competitive side that were superior for long spells. Vitória now visit Mirassol at Maião on Sunday at 16:00 Brasília time in round 27.
