Warren Zaïre-Emery injured, Maghnès Akliouche called up by France | OneFootball

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Maghnès Akliouche has been called up by France to replace Warren Zaïre-Emery, who has an adductor injury, for the international window that began on Monday, the federation announced.

Akliouche was left out of Zinédine Zidane’s first squad named on Friday. Zaïre-Emery played at right-back in Sunday’s Classique, a 2-1 win at Marseille.

The former Monaco player started on the bench at the Stade Vélodrome and came on in the 65th minute for the Spaniard Fabian Ruiz. Akliouche, aged 24, has 10 caps and featured at this summer’s World Cup in North America. He previously won Olympic silver with France in 2024 in Paris.

It is a blow for Zaïre-Emery, with Zidane stating on Friday that he had selected him to see him in his preferred midfield role.

It is the second withdrawal from the 23-man squad after Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser, who was replaced on Sunday by Como’s Jean Butez. The changes take the tally of uncapped players to six, alongside Guillaume Restes, Luca Da Cunha, Andy Diouf, Jérémy Jacquet and Esteban Lepaul.

For his first matches in charge, Zidane has a two-week window in which France will play four Nations League games. They are scheduled for Türkiye on 25 September, Belgium on 28 September, Italy at the Stade de France on 2 October, then a return meeting with the Red Devils on 5 October.
