Immediately after securing their 28th La Liga title with a victory over Espanyol, tensions briefly flared at the RCD Stadium.

Several Espanyol players expressed frustration over what they perceived as over-the-top celebrations by Barcelona’s players.

A minor scuffle ensued, prompting Hansi Flick to intervene swiftly. The Barça coach called on his players to leave the pitch to avoid any escalation and unnecessary confrontation.

Despite the hostility from some of the Espanyol squad, a number of Barça supporters in the stands, unaware of the brewing tension on the field, remained in a joyous embrace, savouring the moment.

Espanyol tried to minimise the celebration

That is, until the stadium’s sprinklers were turned on, a symbolic gesture that many could not help but compare to the infamous scene from the 2009–10 Champions League semi-final, when Inter celebrated at the Camp Nou under a shower of water after eliminating Barcelona.

This time, however, the situation was far more controlled. Unlike the chaotic scenes two years ago when Barça clinched their 27th league title at the same venue, leading to a full-scale pitch invasion by fans, security was significantly stepped up.

Anticipating potential unrest, stadium authorities deployed a stronger security presence, which ensured there were no disruptions or pitch invasions this time around.

Took the celebration to the dressing room

With the situation defused, the Barcelona players retreated to the dressing room, where the real celebration began. The atmosphere behind closed doors was electric. Music blared, champagne flowed, and the sense of achievement was tangible.

Players sang, danced, and relished the culmination of a season marked by consistency, unity, and resilience.

The title win was not just a footballing triumph, but a statement of character. Against adversity, both on and off the pitch, this young and daring Barça side, under Flick’s leadership, stood tall.

Even in the face of hostility, they chose to celebrate with class and composure, turning what could have been a hostile post-match moment into a dignified retreat.
