The Hornets are not done just yet when it comes to their transfer business

Watford are vying to bolster their squad before the winter transfer window closes on Monday, with a move for a player from a Championship rival eyed up.

The Hornets have already strengthened their ranks with the permanent addition of former Roma midfielder Edoardo Bove and the loan acquisition of Manchester City youngster Stephen Mfuni.

Javi Gracia's men remain just four points adrift of the Championship play-off places, even though they have endured a four-game winless run in the second tier.

Crucially, Watford have a game in hand on sixth-place Wrexham, which could play a key role in their battle for a spot in next season's Premier League, and more new additions are being eyed before the deadline.

Watford eye deal for Millwall defender Danny McNamara

Unlike the Hornets, Millwall have been in good form in the Championship in recent weeks, and sit fifth following their 1-1 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday.

Meanwhile, as reported by Alan Nixon via Patreon, Watford are interested in Lions fullback Danny McNamara, and would be willing to the 27-year-old's services on loan.

Nixon's report adds that Millwall may let the defender leave if the right club approaches him, having seen his game-time limited at right-back due to Tristan Crama's presence in that position.

Former Republic of Ireland youth international McNamara, who can operate either side of the back four, has made eight Championship appearances this season, most recently featuring in a 0-0 draw with Southampton on New Year's Day.

He signed a new undisclosed length contract in the summer after his 2024-25 season was blighted by a knee injury, but McNamara could now move on before Monday's 7pm deadline.

Millwall could be reluctant to let Danny McNamara join Watford

McNamara has struggled to earn game time for Millwall this season, meaning that a loan move away from The Den could very well be the right move for the 27-year-old's career.

However, with Nixon's report stating that the Lions would allow their full-back to join the right club, Alex Neil's men may be reluctant to allow him to join fellow play-off chasers Watford.

McNamara boasts rich Championship experience, having made 158 appearances for Millwall since returning from his loan spell with Scottish outfit St Johnstone in 2021.

The Lions should be reluctant to hand one of their play-off rivals such an asset.

McNamara could have what it takes to help Watford turn their form around and earn positive results in their upcoming fixtures with Hull City, Southampton, and Preston North End.
