Watford forward Ignacio Pussetto is on the verge of a departure to Italian club Sampdoria, according to Hornets reporter Andrew French.
The 26-year-old Argentinian signed for the Hertfordshire outfit in January 2020, penning a four-and-a-half year contract for a £7 million fee from Udinese, who like Watford are owned by the Pozzo family.
Since his arrival at Vicarage Road though, Pussetto has made just nine appearances for the club and has spent most of his time contracted there back at Udinese on loan.
Pussetto rejoined the Italians in October 2020, with his temporary deal ending a few months ago, totalling 10 goals in 44 appearances in that time.
Having not been in a matchday squad for new head coach Rob Edwards this season, the Watford hierarchy have found Pussetto a new club back in Italy for the South American to continue his career at.
Sampdoria will sign Pussetto on an initial loan deal and they will hold the option to make it a permanent one in the future.
The Verdict
He could have probably easily fit back in at Udinese again, but for whatever reason he is heading elsewhere in Italy.
The main thing will have been getting Pussetto’s wages off the salary list at Vicarage Road, which could potentially give Rob Edwards more room to make a signing on deadline day.
With seemingly no chance of Pussetto playing for Watford this season though, it is a transfer that needed to happen.
