Joao Pedro played his part against Hull with another goal for Chelsea.

Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea continue to be the Premier League’s entertainers for the neutral following the 2-2 draw at home to Hull City.

Despite being viewed as ‘entertainers’ by neutrals, the feeling isn’t mutual for head coach Xabi Alonso, whose defensive woes continued on Saturday afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

Morgan Rogers once again got the Blues off to a flying start inside six minutes, registering his fourth goal involvement in four league matches since joining from Aston Villa in a £117 million move.

The Englishman’s hard work was undone just 27 minutes later as Jorrel Hato misjudged a cross, allowing the Tigers to pounce and level the game. Chelsea continued to be rattled as, just six minutes later, Hull took the lead through Mohamed Belloumi. The Algerian netted his second goal of the game as the west London side went from domination to being dominated by the visitors.

Midway through the second half, Cole Palmer continued his flying start to the 2026/27 season by finding Joao Pedro to draw Chelsea back level. Both sides felt they had opportunities to win the match in the closing stages, but in the end, both had to settle for a point at Stamford Bridge. The draw means Hull remain unbeaten after four games, whilst the Blues will see it as two points dropped and an opportunity missed.

Defensively, Chelsea looked fragile once again, and a mistake always seemed around the corner. However, in attack, the Blues always remained a threat. One player who spoke after the draw was striker Joao Pedro.

The Brazilian, as quoted by Chelsea’s in-house media team, stressed after the game just how tough life can be in the Premier League once going behind. He said:

After picking up the Premier League Player of the Month award for August earlier this week, Joao Pedro continued his powerful start to the season by scoring his third goal in four matches.

The 24-year-old’s strong start has also seen him recalled by Brazilian national team coach Carlo Ancelotti at the first time of asking since his disappointing omission from the 2026 World Cup squad. Brazil will play two international friendlies against Australia on September 25 and September 29.

Before the international break, Chelsea will make the short journey across west London on September 18 to face Brentford, who, like Hull City, have endured an unbeaten start to the season under Keith Andrews. Chelsea will then return to action on October 10 to face AFC Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.
