“We Want to Win It All”: Kompany Dreams of a Perfect Season for Bayern

FC Bayern is kicking off the new season with the highest ambitions. Vincent Kompany makes no secret of the fact that the German record champions do not intend to settle for domestic success alone. The Belgian has his sights firmly set on the league title, the DFB Cup, and the Champions League—and has even set an even more ambitious goal.

Following last season’s successful campaign, FC Bayern is entering the new season with great confidence. Under Vincent Kompany, the Munich team has regained its domestic dominance and most recently won the double of the league title and the DFB Cup.

In the Champions League, too, FCB once again proved itself a serious title contender. Kompany’s team didn’t bow out until the semifinals. The roadmap for the new season is accordingly clear: Defend the titles domestically, and take the next step internationally.

In an interview with the club’s media, Kompany made it clear that he wouldn’t even consider settling for anything less. “The goals are always the very highest with FC Bayern: That means winning the Bundesliga, winning the Cup, winning the Champions League—and maybe even winning every game. We’ll definitely try to do that,” explained the 40-year-old.

Kompany aims to win every title with Bayern

With this statement, Kompany underscores the ambition he has exemplified since taking office in Munich. While the Belgian repeatedly warns publicly against taking success for granted, he leaves no doubt as to what he expects from his team.

The Champions League, in particular, is likely to take center stage even more in the new season. After reaching the semifinals last season, Bayern has shown that it is once again among Europe’s elite.

Now it’s time to take the next step.

Kompany had already made it unmistakably clear recently that the Champions League trophy is a concrete goal for his team. The Munich side doesn’t just want to go as far as possible—they want to win Europe’s most prestigious club title.

The fact that the Bayern coach is now even talking about possibly wanting to win every game underscores his mentality. Of course, Kompany is likely well aware that a perfect season is hardly realistic. However, the statement shows the high standards with which the Belgian intends to lead his team into the new season.

Kompany and his players won’t have to wait long before things get serious. Their first title opportunity of the new season comes as early as August 22 with the Franz-Beckenbauer Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund.

After that, Bayern’s mission to defend their Bundesliga title begins. In the DFB Cup as well, the Munich team aims to go all the way again following last season’s triumph.

The biggest challenge, however, lies on the international stage. There, Bayern will face off against the best teams in Europe. After being eliminated in the semifinals last season by PSG, the goal this time is to go as far as possible—ideally all the way to the final—and come away with the Champions League trophy.

In any case, Kompany has already made it clear before the first competitive match that at FC Bayern, no title is prioritized or written off. The Munich team wants to go for it in every competition.

And if their coach has his way, they’d prefer to do so without losing a single game.
