West Brom have been handed a lift for Saturday’s visit to Preston, with three first-team players back available. The Baggies return after a week dominated by an EFL charge for an alleged financial breach, with James Morrison focused on the run-in.

As reported by ExpressAndStar.com, Morrison confirmed that Karlan Grant, Chris Mepham and Tammer Bany trained fully this week and are in contention at mid-table Preston.

Grant and Mepham have been out with serious hamstring injuries. Grant last featured in the draw at Derby on 23 January, while Mepham has been sidelined since the home stalemate against Stoke in February.

Attacking midfielder Bany has barely featured this season, with five substitute outings since arriving at The Hawthorns 14 months ago. He had surgery on a torn thigh in the new year.

Morrison said the group benefited from the experienced trio returning to training, adding it offers a different dimension, helps build fitness and makes them available for selection. He now has 23 players competing for places, which he called a good problem.

Academy graduate Harry Whitwell sustained a minor knock in training and is expected to miss the Preston trip. Grant’s availability is particularly timely after long-term issues in wide areas affecting him, Mikey Johnston and Jed Wallace. Morrison felt Grant had been at the top of his game when injured and praised his leadership and vocal presence in the dressing room.
